The prevalence of comorbid ADHD in both affected individuals and their families has several impacts including an earlier onset, more childhood stressors (violence, parental inconsistency, substance abuse, etc), increased likelihood of recurrence and persistence, poorer response to medications, the usual cognitive challenges of ADHD (including hyperfocus with enhanced creativity but awkward interpersonal responses) and frequently problems with poor dietary habits (plus the impact of most medications used as mood stabilizers or antidepressants).
