Career Q&A With Joseph Weiner, MD, PhD (Part 2)

By Joseph S. Weiner, MD, PhD | December 7, 2012

During a presentation at a past Psychiatric Times Virtual Career Expo, Dr Joseph Weiner answered questions submitted by attendees. That exchange can be heard here. In Part 2 of this 2-part webcast, Dr Weiner addresses these and other questions:

• Is there any evidence that the rate of divorce is higher among psychiatrists than other physicians?
• What does it mean to be a good doctor?
• What gets in the way of achieving balance in a career?
• Where can a psychiatrist go to get support if he or she is stressed out?
• How do you prevent burnout in residency?

(MORE: Balancing Your Professional and Personal Life (Part 1))

Dr Weiner is Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Medicine at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine in Hempstead, New York, where he co-directs the 4-year curriculum in Communication and Interpersonal Skills. He is in private practice in Great Neck, New York, where he focuses on the care of patients with depression, anxiety, bereavement, and burnout, particularly in physicians who make up a large percentage of his practice.
