A Brief Overview of Child-Parent Psychotherapy

In this pre-recorded podcast, Drs Andrew Gerber and Catherine Monk discuss Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), an evidenced-based, dyadic intervention with a child who has been exposed to trauma and a caregiver. CPP often involves a mother and her young child (aged 0 to 5 years) and has been shown to be an effective treatment in helping mothers and their children when they have experienced significant life trauma, often domestic violence.

Also discussed are specific approaches of this treatment and what mothers and children are dealing with when they have gone through violence and trauma.

Dr Gerber is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Dr Monk is Associate Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology) at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York. Podcast moderated by Dr Elizabeth Fitelson, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Columbia University Medical Center and Director of the Women's Program in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University.

This podcast was recorded on BlogTalkRadio on January 28, 2013 and posted here with permission from Columbia University Department of Psychiatry.
