Psychiatry Residency Program Director - West Virginia University

February 5, 2013

Psychiatry Residency Program Director

West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry is recruiting a BC psychiatrist to assume the role of Residency Program Director at Chestnut Ridge Center in Morgantown, WV.

Our general psychiatry residency program is ACGME accredited and we have 24 funded residency positions. There are 30 active faculty members practicing in the Department in Morgantown, and an additional 19 at William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital. We offer fellowship training in child and adolescent, forensic and psychosomatic psychiatry.

The Residency Program Director is responsible for conducting the general psychiatry residency program in accordance with the requirements of the Residency Review Committee (RRC) in order to ensure the highest quality education and to maintain full ACGME certification. This full time position will devote 20 hours (20 hours/week is 50% protected time and receives full institutional support) to administrative and educational activities of the psychiatry educational program, with additional time spent in clinical activities and other academic pursuits. The opportunity exists for an exceptionally well-qualified candidate to receive support through an endowed Farnsworth Chair in Educational Psychiatry.

The minimum qualifications the Program Director must possess are:

• Board certification in General Psychiatry and actively engaged in maintenance of certification.

• At least 5 years of faculty experience in an ACGME approved psychiatry residency program.

• A commitment and dedication to the education of resident psychiatrists.

• The ability to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in West Virginia.

Our facility offers a broad range of services including inpatient, outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, assertive community treatment, telepsychiatry, ECT and consult liaison services. Off-site psychiatry rotations include the VA and our principal state psychiatric hospital (Sharpe). In addition to psychiatrists, our faculty includes neuropsychologists, psychologists and social workers. Training is provided in a variety of disciplines including psychology, neuropsychology, nursing, social work, counseling and medical students

Faculty within the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry are medical staff members of West Virginia University Hospitals, Inc. The Clinical Enterprise at WVU provides faculty the benefits of practicing at a level 1 trauma center and the premier tertiary, referral center for the state of West Virginia. Rewards from such affiliation, along with cutting-edge technology and a collaborative academic atmosphere, are conducive to professional growth. The Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center has a full complement of academic programs in the clinical and basic sciences.

With a metro area population of over 115,000, Morgantown is consistently rated as one of the best small cities in the U.S., with affordable housing, excellent schools, a picturesque countryside, many outdoor recreational activities, and close proximity to major cities, such as Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, D.C. It also boasts a thriving economy which prompted Peter Alexander of NBC News to recently state that Morgantown is “an oasis of opportunity” and is full of “can-do Mountaineer spirit.”

Salaries are competitive and benefits are excellent. The position will remain open until filled. Please forward letter of interest and curriculum vitae to: Laura Blake, Director, Physician Recruitment blakel@wvuhealthcare.com Fax: 304.293.0230 http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/bmed/
