The Department of State – Bureau of Medical Services safeguards the health and well-being of America’s diplomatic community. As s Psychiatrist practicing in the Foreign Service, you are a medical diplomat and will be at the forefront of the Department of State’s mission to deliver the best in preventative and emergency care without the pressure of billing and insurance.

As a Regional Medical Office Psychiatrist, you will engage in diplomacy, lead and effect policy change, and protect your fellow diplomats from disease and environmental threats. And you will have the opportunity to do this in a new location every two to four years. All in all, you will truly make a difference—wherever you go.

Foreign Service Medical Specialists are comprised of family nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, physicians, physician assistants, and medical laboratory scientists. As a psychiatrist in the Foreign Service, you will provide mental health care to U.S Diplomats and their eligible family members around the world.
