Eisenhower Fellowships has launched its 2022 USA Justice Program with an inaugural cohort of 11 mid-career US professionals from a variety of fields, including psychiatry, to address issues in inequality.

The USA Justice Program will allow fellows to travel abroad to 2 or 3 countries for 4 to 5 weeks to meet with experts in their professional fields and identify strategies for battling deep-seated racial discrimination in their professions and communities.1 “The Justice Program employs our historic foundation of direct dialogue to enhance understanding and shape solutions to the vexing inequalities that disproportionately affect African-Americans and other communities of color,” said George de Lama, Eisenhower Fellowships president, in a press release.

The initial cohort of fellows includes professionals from psychiatry and medicine, as well as bioscience, law enforcement, finance, education, academia, and civic engagement.1 One of these fellows is Rachel Conrad, MD, a psychiatrist who serves as director of Youth Adult Mental Health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts.

“I’m proud to be part of Eisenhower Fellowships’ inaugural 2022 USA Justice Program, and I am honored to join a vibrant community and build relationships with leaders who each have unique backgrounds and missions,” Conrad told Psychiatric Times™. “On fellowship in Australia and Malaysia, I will meet leaders of similar programs to explore ways of improving equal access to youth mental health treatment.”

“These dynamic leaders join a global network of fellows who, for nearly 7 decades, have been striving to create a world more peaceful, prosperous, and just,” concluded Robert M. Gates, former US Secretary of Defense and Eisenhower Fellowships chairman, in a press release. “Their work advances the core justice pillar of our founding mission.”
