Answer: C. Divalproex. Although divalproex is often prescribed for bipolar depression, it is also considered by some clinicians to be contraindicated in young women. The medication may increase the rate of polycystic ovary syndrome, and-given the impulsivity often associated with bipolar disorder-the relatively high teratogenicity of divalproex can pose a potential problem.
