They ask me to sign
the moment before
my poetry reading
and I comply,
though I don’t let on
my conflicts are
my greatest interest-
how I profit from sickness,
the way I can be both
detached and concerned,
that my most inspired device
is to marry psychiatry’s science,
without conflict,
to the poetry of healing.
