Amae Health, a company specializing in the treatment of complex mental health conditions, today announced a collaboration with Google Health Enterprise to incorporate wearable-derived behavioral data into its precision psychiatry care model. The partnership builds on Amae's existing clinical relationships with academic medical centers including Cedars-Sinai, Mass General Brigham, and New York-Presbyterian.1

Psychiatry has historically lacked reliable, scalable biomarkers to objectively track disease state and progression. Patients with complex conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and severe personality disorders have largely been monitored through episodic visits and subjective self-report, which can make early detection of clinical decline difficult. Early detection is vital to prevent severe outcomes, such as hospitalizations and deaths by suicide.2

With the new collaboration, wearable devices will capture behavioral signals—including sleep patterns, physical activity, heart rate variability, and changes in daily routine—and route that data to Amae's care teams. This gives clinicians visibility into how patients are functioning between visits, with the stated goals of catching early warning signs, predicting relapse, and giving patients an ongoing, objective view of their own health status.

“Our partnership with Google Health Enterprise reflects a fundamental shift in how we understand and measure severe mental illness,” said Scott Fears, MD, the chief medical officer at Amae Health. “Unlike other areas of medicine, psychiatry has historically lacked objective tools for measuring disease progression and treatment response. By integrating wearable-derived behavioral signals into our care model, we are capturing measurable patterns of illness in real-world settings, including sleep and activity disruptions that often precede clinical decline. This represents an important step toward establishing objective, continuous measurement as a foundational component of psychiatric care.”

Amae Health said it is working toward a broader mental health composite score, modeled on cardiac risk scoring in cardiovascular medicine, that would combine wearable-derived behavioral data with biomarkers, EEG data, voice analysis, and medication response into a single multidimensional measure of patient health. No timeline for that composite score was disclosed.
