APA 2026 Presentations to Watch

Psychiatric Times board members will be sharing a variety of clinical and practical presentations at this year’s annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association. Keep an eye out for sessions on sports psychiatry, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), geriatrics updates, artificial intelligence, and more.

Philip Muskin, MD, will focus on OCD and the latest treatments and issues facing practitioners today. His presentation will include other OCD specialist professionals, focusing on alternative treatments to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Treatments discussed will include drugs targeting other pathways like glutamate, along with brain stimulation with transcranial magnetic stimulation and deep brain stimulation. Presenters will share the latest research and provide a survey of the growing number of OCD treatment options available.

Dilip Jeste, MD, and copresenters will discuss the microbiome gut-brain axis and how it can impact interventions. He emphasizes the bidirectional relationship of the the brain and the gut microbiome, noting that social engagement and gut microbiota diversity have been found to be related. Some findings have shown a connection of supplement probiotics to support the gut microbiome and mood, cognition, and gastrointestinal functioning.
